30 YEARS OF LAUGHS
December 1, 2017

Turning 30 is no joke. Artspeak is one of the oldest artist-run centers in the city, having weathered the effects of many cultural, economic, and institutional shifts. The resiliency of the organization is, at least partially, due to the adaptability and good humour of the people who make up Artspeak.

We invite you to celebrate with us Artspeak’s 31st year with a lineup which we think will make you sit up in your chair and laugh out loud.

Your hosts for the evening will be LIZ MILTON & TARA TRAVIS who form the All Female Comedy Duo. In the spirit, we’ve produced a commemorative limited-edition joke book, with contributions from community members who have contributed to Artspeak over the past three decades—artists, board members, subscribers, volunteers and staff. Next for your watching pleasure we’ve brought in TRAVIS THE MAGICIAN. Travis Bernhardt is a stage and street performer and with his collaborator Chris Ross, were selected for the Vancouver Pick of The Fringe in 2017.

Then enter stage right, Jibraila Cameron, aka DYNASTY HANDBAG. Need we say more?

Lastly, we’re launching our latest brown and natural coloured totes, designed by Meghan Latta, made by The Window Community Art Shop on East Hastings Street. Commemorating the first five seasons that The X-Files television series were shot in and around Vancouver, frequently filming in front of Artspeak, Latta has captured Scully and Mulder in typical Gastown poses.

So please join us at The Russian Hall,600 Campbell Avenue in Vancouver on December 1st, 2017. Doors will be open at 7pm and the festivities around 8pm.
