Gabi Ngcobo on Danh Vo

Independent curator, educator, and artist Gabi Ngcobo (South Africa) will respond to Danh Voís exhibition One Beauty Sleep Away at Artspeak. This event is presented in conjunction with Institutions by Artists, a three-day international event that evaluates and activates the performance and promise of contemporary artist-run centres and initiatives.
Gabi Ngcobo is the Creative Director of the Center for Historical Reenactments and lecturer at the Wits School of Arts, University of Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ngcobo is also a founding member of the Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) and has served as its Western Cape co-chair and National Representative. In 2010 she co-curated rope-a-dope: to win a losing war at Cabinet, New York and contributes to an ongoing project titled Xenoglossia, a research project which traveled to the 11th Lyon Biennale in September 2011. Ngcobo is the curator of DONíT/ PANIC, a curatorial project that coincided with the 17th UN Global Summit on Climate Change (COP17) that took place in Durban, South Africa in November 2011. Ngcobo is a graduate of the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.
