    February 7, 2003

“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.” — Bette Davis, All About Eve

The ever-mischievous Artspeak Board of Directors and Master of Ceremonies, John Boehme invite you to join us for the most absurd industry awards ever. This year, the Metas cross the tracks to the ANZA Club and play to the crowd with reduced ticket prices, and the new and improved award design created by Kathy Slade.

Meta Edition (Award Sampler)

“It’s an emotional moment for me and words seem so futile, so feeble.”

Inspired by Oscar Acceptance Speeches, the amazing Kathy Slade designed a series of works especially for the Metas! Artspeak is pleased to offer two of the lovely Award Samplers, by Slade, for direct purchase. These embroidered texts on stretched canvas feature excerpts of Academy Awards acceptance speeches.

This embroidered drawing depicts a “lost” scene from the 1965 film Darling. In her Oscar winning role, Julie Christie portrays Diana Scott, an amoral model, whose character epitomized the hedonistic mores of swinging sixties London. Diana stripping in her bedroom was deemed too scandalous for North American audiences and was cut out of all North American releases.
