Gwaai Edenshaw

Gwaai Edenshaw is an Eagle from the Ts’aahl clan, and a member of the Haida Nation. He is based in Vancouver and exhibits internationally. Gwaai lived and trained with Bill Reid and has produced a number of poles as well as the high-end jewelry in gold and silver for which he is best known. Gwaai is a founding member of K’ aalts’idaa K’ah (Laughing Crow) Productions, a story telling society on Haida Gwaii. After the success of their inaugural production Sounding Gambling Sticks he is currently working with his brother Jaalen on a new play.

    Artspeak is pleased to host a public discussion on the relationship of art, knowledge, language, and place with artists Raymond Boisjoly, Gwaai Edenshaw, and Emma Smith. Organized by Smith, the event will explore a series of questions stemming from the artists’ practices around the embedded knowledge in place, names, language, and art.
